Respiratory Quotient refers to the ratio of oxygen to carbon-dioxide production. Also known as RQ. This just represents the primary energy used for fuel any total energy expenditure. RQ is measured from a 0.7 to 1.0 range. Closer to 0.7, the more lipid or fat usage. The closer to 1.0, the more the carbohydrate usage. When you hit 0.85, there is a combination of fats and carbs.
