Quick Health Tip - Measuring Heart Rate Interpretations

Measuring Heart Rate Interpretations includes the following methods:

  • HRTZ (Heart Rate Training Zone) is the range of work that maximizes the adaption response to aerobic routines. The range requires us to use a universal classic formula to find maximal HR, which is 220 – age (on a normal distribution, 98% fall with a couple of standard deviation of 10-24 beat per minute).
    • Then the training zone = max HR * the intensity percentage.
    • So if we were to have a intensity range of 70-90% for a 30 year old person, HRTZ = (220-30)*.7 and (220-30)*.9 is approximately 133 – 171 bpm (beat per minute).

  • Multifactor General Population Formula for Max HR for Men = 203.9 – (.812*age) + (.276*RHR)-(.084*kg)-(4.5* smoking code); nonsmokers have a smoking code of zero

  • Multifactor General Population Formula for Max HR for Women = 204.8 – (.718*age) + (.162*RHR)-(.105*kg)-(6.2* smoking code); nonsmokers have a smoking code of zero

  • HR Reserve (HRR) Method – The basic HR Max formula is contingent on a prescribed intensity. The HRR is a more detailed calculation as it accounts resting HR, which helps determine stroke volume and cardiovascular efficiency.
    • To calculate step one is HRR = Max HR – Resting HR (RHR) and step two is Training HR = (HRR * Training Intensity %) + Resting HR.
