Quick Health Tip - Avoid Eating Disorders at All Costs

Unfortunately, people fall into eating disorders because they are not happy with the way they look. Severe restrictions are the worst habits because we lose lean muscle mass, increase fat storage cells (as we go into starvation mode), and compromise our metabolic rate. Eating disorders are psychological disorders and can be fatal. They start form the attempt to modify weight, and then it becomes a pathological obsession.
 
Main types of Eating Disorders:
  • Anorexia Nervosa – Fear of becoming obese, distorted self-image, aversion to food, and extreme weight loss
  • Bulimia Nervosa – Same characteristics of Anorexia Nervosa with the addition of binge-eating and purging episodes.
  • Binge-Eating Disorder – Uncontrolled and excessive consumption of food during times of stress.
 
Eating Disorder characteristics include the following:
  • Self-body distortion
  • Strong emphasis on bodyweight and preoccupation with food
  • Depression
  • Noticeable overeating or avoidance of eating
  • Body dissatisfaction
  • Remorse and self-loathing after food
  • Use of laxatives, purging, and/or appetite suppressants
  • Smoking
  • Exercising excessively
  • Eating alone and trying to avoid social gatherings
